About
The Secular Student Alliance promotes the ideals of scientific and critical inquiry, democracy, secularism and human-based ethics.
Our principles revolve around education, service, community, and cooperation. We believe students should be exposed to, and understand, arguments against the existence of a higher power, whether they choose to accept them or not.
We live under the stigma that nonbelievers are selfish and close-minded, but hope that even minor contributions to the community will overturn this stereotype.
We aim to:
-
Educate ourselves and our communities about religion and nontheism
-
Contribute to society through community service
-
Participate in our government through activism
-
Build a community for nontheists at Pacific Union College
-
Cooperate with other groups of both similar and dissimilar viewpoints to foster understanding and communication.
We hope that the union of non-religious students in a predominantly Adventist liberal arts college will promote the exchange of ideas, a central part of a higher education.
Secular students at PUC?
Although Pacific Union College is historically religious, there is a large and growing non-theistic population on the campus.
We aim to represent this population of scholars at PUC while articulating our secularistic world-view and rejection of a higher power to the student body.
